HOW WISDOM CAME AMONG ALL
This is an African folk story.
They say that there was a spider Kwaku. He became jealous of people and wanted to keep all knowledge with him or under his control.
He gathered all knowledge together in one spot and placed it in a big pot. He decided that he would climb a tall tree and hang it there. No one, without his permission can have any knowledge.
He took a long string and tied the pot. He hung the pot down his neck, over his stomach. He reached the tall tree he selected to hang the pot of wisdom.
He tried to climb the tree.He climbed, and climbed, and climbed only in vain.
He tried again and again in vain. His young son, Nikuma, who came there asked his father “What are you doing father ?”
The father replied: “I am trying to climb up the tree to tie this pot at the top branch of the tree. No one can take knowledge without my permission.”
The young boy Nikuma said. “Father, I thought you are wise. But look what you are doing. How can you climb with the pot hanging from your neck in front of you?”
He added: “If you want to climb, you should have the pot on your back, not in front.”
The father spider realized his folly. He grew very angry with the poor knowledge he had.He threw down the pot and all knowledge was scattered. It was carried away everywhere by strong winds.
That is how everyone got knowledge.
